Exam Tables
Running a medical facility is not strictly all about caring for the patients. Any administrator knows that a good part of keeping that facility functional is making the everyday decisions about equipment and supplies, and this means replacing and repairing exam tables when necessary. There are many reasons why a medical facility needs to keep all of their equipment updated, and many reasons why it would be a mistake to exclude exam tables from that list of equipment.
The patient's safety as well as the safety of the medical personnel relies on working equipment. The exam tables in your facility are no different. Additionally, exams are much easier when a patient can be assisted in different ways by the table. A doctor or nurse being able to have a clear view of certain areas of the body will make a tremendous difference in their diagnosis, and today's exam tables can help in this regard.
Consider a few quick additional reasons as to why exam tables should be updated and replaced regularly.
Safety of Patients
Older exam tables may actually pose a risk for patients when it comes to their safety. Steps that are loose and additional elements that are not properly maintained may cause them to slip when getting onto or off of the table, and this is a risk for the patient and the medical staff. Those who have quite a number of elderly patients have increased risk as well since they are often not steady on their feet, so of course the exam tables should always be in good working order and replaced when needed.
Convenience of Exams
The exam tables at a facility can also add to the convenience and effectiveness of exams. Having instruments handy in drawers under the exam area can make those exams go by so much quicker and can make them more effective.
When to Replace Tables
But when should you replace your exam tables at your facility? Obviously when one is beyond repair, it should be removed from the facility for the sake of a patient's safety. When the covers of the exam tables become torn, worn or frayed then they need to replaced as well, or the table itself replaced.
You may also consider the typical patients you are seeing regularly. Those that have a problem getting onto or off of your exam tables may be at risk, so you may want to think about newer models that have steps or that are adjustable in many ways. In some cases you may want to invest in larger exam tables since obesity is becoming a more common problem, and many who are severely overweight have problems with much of the equipment in the medical facilities today.
Purchasing new exam tables should be considered as important as purchasing any new equipment for your facility. They should not be allowed to be in a state of disrepair or in any way pose a risk for the patients.
